Canada to ease Travel Restrictions due to COVID-19

As of April 1, 2022 fully vaccinated travellers will no longer need to provide a pre-entry COVID test.

Travellers arriving in Canada from any country, who qualify as fully vaccinated, will continue to be randomly selected for arrival testing. However, since February 28, 2022 travellers are no longer required to quarantine while awaiting their test result.

Futhermore, Transport Canada’s restriction where international passenger flights can arrive in Canada expired. This means that international flights carrying passengers are permitted to land at all remaining Canadian international airports.

Effective April 25, 2022, all fully vaccinated travellers will no longer be required to provide a quarantine plan upon entry. At the same time, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated children aged 5-11 who are accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent will no longer be required to complete a pre-entry COVID-19 test for entry to Canada. Pre-entry tests will still be required for partially vaccinated or unvaccinated travellers 12 and older who are currently eligible to travel to Canada. Children under 5 years of age are not required to provide a COVID-19 test result.

As a reminder, all travellers are still required to use ArriveCAN to provide mandatory travel information such as contact details and proof of vaccination (if applicable), within 72 hours of their arrival to Canada and/or before boarding a plane or cruise ship destined for Canada.

Lastly, the government removed their recommendation against travel for non-essential purposes. They expect travellers to understand the risks that are still associated with international travel, and take necessary precautions.

Most travellers must be fully vaccinated to travel to Canada, or board a domestic or international flight within Canada. The exemption for foreign nationals was extended and those who don’t qualify as fully vaccinated and who don’t permanently reside in Canada will be allowed to depart Canada up until August 31, 2022.
