Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Provincial Nominee Programs for Immigrating to Canada

Canada has always been a land of opportunities and a sought-after destination for immigrants worldwide. With its diverse culture, strong economy, and welcoming atmosphere, it's no surprise that many individuals dream of starting a new life in the Great White North. For skilled workers and entrepreneurs, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) offers a pathway to Canadian permanent residency

What is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)?

The Provincial Nominee Program is a partnership between the Canadian federal government and provincial or territorial governments. Through the PNP, provinces and territories can nominate individuals who possess the skills and qualifications needed to address specific regional labor market demands. Each province or territory in Canada has its own set of PNP streams, tailored to meet its unique economic and demographic needs.

Benefits of the Provincial Nominee Program:

  • Express Entry Pathway: Many PNPs are aligned with the federal Express Entry system, which can expedite the immigration process. Provincial nominations under Express Entry are awarded 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, significantly increasing the chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

  • Tailored Streams: PNPs offer various streams targeting different categories, such as skilled workers, entrepreneurs, international graduates, and semi-skilled workers. This allows a wide range of candidates to find a suitable pathway based on their qualifications and experience.

  • Priority Processing: Provincial nominees are often given priority in the processing of their permanent residency applications, leading to faster outcomes compared to other immigration routes.

How Does the Provincial Nominee Program Work?

The PNP process involves several key steps:

  • Eligibility Assessment: The first step is to determine if you meet the eligibility criteria for the desired PNP stream. Eligibility requirements vary between provinces and streams, but common factors include education, work experience, language proficiency, and connection to the province.

  • Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI): For some PNPs, candidates must express their interest in immigrating to a specific province or territory by creating an EOI profile. This profile outlines their qualifications, work experience, language abilities, and other relevant details.

  • Invitation to Apply (ITA): If the province finds your profile suitable for their labor market needs, you may receive an ITA to apply for a provincial nomination.

  • Provincial Nomination Application: After receiving the ITA, you must submit a complete application for provincial nomination to the respective province or territory. This application should include all necessary documents, such as educational credentials, work references, and language test results.

  • Nomination and Federal Application: If your provincial nomination application is approved, you will receive a nomination certificate. With this certificate, you can then apply for permanent residency with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through the Express Entry system or the Provincial Nominee stream.

  • Medical and Security Checks: All applicants are required to undergo medical examinations and background checks as part of the permanent residence application process.

  • Landing in Canada: Once your application is approved, you will receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a visa to enter Canada as a permanent resident.

How much does it cost?

Each province sets its own fees for its PNP. These application fees are in addition to the processing fee ($ 850) and right of permanent residence fee ($ 515) for the permanent residence application with IRCC.
